730 Weekend 2026: Called By Name

What if the question isn’t whether God is calling someone, but whether He’s calling you?

At 730 Weekend 2026, soldiers from across the Southern Territory gathered at Evangeline Booth College with that question in mind. Over a weekend of worship, learning, fellowship, and honest conversations, delegates were invited to look deeper at what it means to recognize God’s call and have the courage to follow where He leads.

Some came with questions about Officership. Others came ready to learn, listen, or simply take the next step in discerning what God was asking of them, wherever that may lead them. Together, these young adults experienced a glimpse of life at EBC, learning alongside current Cadets and Officers, asking the hard questions and spending time with other Salvationists seeking to walk deeper into their own calling.

And throughout it all, one truth came to the surface: God doesn’t call us by accident. He calls us by name.

March Anyway 

We officially began the weekend with Cadet-led service on Saturday morning. It began with a challenge: What if we already know the next step? 

In his message, Cadet Chad Lancaster looked to Moses in Exodus 4, a man with plenty of reasons why someone else might be better suited for the job. But behind each excuse was the same answer from God: I will be with you.

It’s an answer that still matters when we wrestle with our own calling. We can’t wait until we feel qualified enough, prepared enough, or certain enough. We can convince ourselves that someone else could do it better, but Cadet Lancaster reminded us that God isn’t looking for perfectly prepared people. He is looking for surrendered people.

“Sometimes a calling doesn’t require an answer. It requires an action.”

For those spending the weekend asking about officership, ministry, and where God might be leading next, the message set the tone early. Discernment matters. Questions matter. But eventually, faith asks us to move, regardless. It calls us to march anyway. 

Because as we ended the morning in prayer, we were reminded once again that whatever may be waiting beyond that next step, we never, ever march alone.

Called By Name

Of course, discerning a calling rarely happens in one moment or one meeting.

Throughout 730 Weekend, delegates had space to explore what life at EBC would look like. They stepped into classes, heard from Cadets and Officers, had the opportunity to ask practical questions, and received honest answers. Just as importantly, there was time to simply be together, to meet other Salvationists from across the Southern Territory who were also learning where and how God was asking them to serve.

By Saturday night, those conversations came back into worship. 

Delegates came together to share their testimonies of God’s faithfulness in their lives. One by one, different stories pointed back to the same faithful God, a reminder that before we ever look ahead to where He is leading us, we can look back and see where He has already been. 

Then, Captain Erika McClain shared the story of Bezalel, whom God called by name and equipped for a specific purpose. His story offered an important distinction: “Just because I can do it doesn’t mean I’m called to do it.”

The Army may need officers. Our community may need leaders. There will always be work to do, but need alone is not a calling. “We shouldn’t become Salvation Army Officers because the Army needs more Officers,” Captain McClain shared. “We should be becoming Officers because we are called by name to do so.” 

That night, the invitation wasn’t to fill a position, but to listen closely for the voice of the One calling us deeper.

Looking Through the Windshield

By Sunday morning, the question shifted from recognizing God’s call to trusting Him enough to follow it.

In her testimony, Cadet Sarah Burton reflected on how easy it is to recognize God’s faithfulness in her life after it’s already happened. We can so easily look back at answered prayers, doors opened, and moments of uncertainty, and say with confidence, He was there.

Finding God’s faithfulness is always easy when looking at it in our rearview mirror. Looking through the windshield can be harder when the future is unknown.

There is comfort in the “shallow water,” in what we know, what feels safe, and where we can see the bottom. But sometimes, there is a “holy pull” to deeper waters. Following it means trusting that same God who was faithful behind us will be faithful in what we cannot yet see. 

730 Weekend didn’t promise to answer every question or map out every step ahead. Instead, it reminded our delegates of a greater promise: 

“The one who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:25

The One Who Calls Us is Faithful

That promise carried into Major Ashish Pawar’s message: “It’s not our talents and abilities, but it’s Him that calls us and uses us.” 

Looking at Paul's story, Major Pawar reminded us that answering God’s call doesn’t guarantee an easy road. Paul knew following Christ would come at a cost, and still, he went, because he knew the One who called him was always faithful. 

That same assurance has carried generations of Salvationists into difficult and deep places. We may not know exactly what waits on the other side of our “yes,” but we know we aren’t sent there alone. We may be sent into fire, but we know God will be walking in the flame beside us, every step of the way. 

It was a fitting challenge that drew 730 Weekend to a close. Being called by name is deeply personal, but answering that call sends us outward, ready to serve wherever God leads. 

Called to Action

730 Weekend may be over now, but the calling doesn’t stay at EBC. 

From the earliest days of The Salvation Army, soldiers have been willing to put their faith in action. To the street, to their neighborhoods, and into places others overlook. That mission continues every time someone is willing to ask, Lord, where are You sending me?

That is what we carry with us from 730 Weekend 2026. 

We are called by name, but don’t have every answer. We can ask the hard questions. We can wrestle with uncertainty. But we must also remember where God has already been endlessly faithful and trust Him enough to take another step forward. 

And we can do it together.

For one weekend, Salvation Army Soldiers from all over the southern U.S. worshipped, learned, laughed, prayed, and wrestled with their calling alongside one another. Now comes the hard part: taking what God stirred in us and carrying it beyond the weekend.
